A fantastic site for listening

The Department of Spanish & Portuguese, University of Texas at Austin has a fantastic site with lots of resources which include videos in Spanish with transcripts and grammar explanations.  A great resource for all levels.

Semana Santa competition - Puerto Rico & West Side Story

Our Annual Semana Santa competition is taking place a bit later in the year than normal due to exam classes.  Year 8 and 9 will be preparing their presentations on the topic of Puerto Rico (Year 8) and an aspect of West Side Story (Year 9).  Try to make your work as creative and original as possible.   You are allowed 6 powerpoint slides, but the rest is up to your team as to how you convey the information.

Reading with Lingro

Lingro is an excellent site which helps you to translate vocabulary on the site you are using for reading practice.  This is an excellent resource to develop your vocabulary and improve Reading skills.

Practice your Speaking skills

Here is a link to a site which allows to you type your text into the box and select a Spanish voice to say it.  A good way to practice your speaking at home in preparation for your exam.

Podcasts to improve your listening skills

September is the perfect month to start good habits such as listening to Spanish every day, from a short news video to your favourite song.  The more you expose yourself to the language, the more trained your ear will become and also you will broaden your vocabulary, particularly where there is a transcript available with the audio.  If there is no transcript.....how about trying your own!!  Transcribing what you hear is challenging, but it pays off dividends in the end.  

 

Here are a few free podcasts which would be well worth downloading to your ipod.  You can then listen to them in your own time.  Search iTunes to download.

Mi Ciudad - Santander

Vivo en Santander en el norte de España.  Está en la región de Cantábria.  Es una ciudad muy bonita con muchas playas magníficas. 

Las playas son muy limpias.

En el barrio pesquero que está en el puerto, hay muchos restaurantes donde la especialidad es el pescado.

Hay muchos bares y restaurantes en la ciudad.  Me gustan mucho porque tienen tapas deliciosas.  Hay una plaza con bares y cafeterías.  Por la noche es muy ruidoso.

Hay iglesias muy antiguas y monumentos muy históricos.  También hay el famoso Banco Santander.  El Correos de Santander es muy grande.  Me encanta la cafetería que se llama Valor porque vende churros con todos tipos de chocolate.  ¡Qué rico!
